’16 XC90 Lemon Buy-Back – T6 Momentum

1 Attachment(s)
I would like to share my XC90 ownership experience to see if anyoneelse has had any similar experiences, as I am considering buying another XC90to replace the one Volvo bought back under the Lemon Law. We absolutely loved our XC90 having takenfactory delivery in Sweden on 5Aug15 and spending 7 days with the car inEurope; but after the extensive amount of time w/the car out of service at thedealer and a near miss rear end collision triggered by the collision avoidancesystem I knew I had to take action.I alsowant to say that Volvo and the dealer provided excellent customer care duringthis whole process and made buy-back very hassle free.

I would like to see if all owners of Motor Trend’s SUV of the Year, have had electrical gremlins before diving in and buying another XC90. A few long term tests I’ve found don’t helpthe cause. Please let me know if you’rehaving similar issues or are in the process of a buy-back.

Long-Term Tests:

Timeline of Events:

28Oct15-17Nov15 – @Dealer for no sound/audio, chimes, Bluetooth;R&R audio module update software programming

20Jan16-26Jan16 - @ Dealer for tailgate not opening/stop ¼ way;software update performed

12Apr16-18Apr16 - @Dealer for 10k service, child locks jammed,nav/radio software issues, collision avoidance slammed on brakes in the rain onthe hwy even w/o a vehicle in front reducing speed from 65mph to 30mph andalmost caused an accident.

May16 – Buyback under Lemon Law initiated through Volvo Customer Care.

July16 – Buyback completed.

I purchased a 2016 XC90 and have the following issues so far:

1) June 2016- Squealing sound when applying brakes- took the car to dealer to fix it but nothing was done and I was told to come back after 2.5 months

2) July 2016- Car odometer screen went blank while driving and car stopped and started after 30 seconds but moved at 20KM only. Car was towed for service, the guy at service said it was a loose wiring but when I collected the car, it said, software glitch.

So one more issue and I will start the buyback!

Best of luck with the buy-back! Mine met all the criteria on my state (30 days in the shop, same issue 3x+ times, danger to operate)

Keep us posted on the progress.

I don't think it is as easy as you think to get a automaker/dealer to buy the car back or replace under Lemon law. I think you need to have the same problem happening multiple times after dealer attempts to fix and not successful. The car needs to be in the shop for over a long period of time, not operated by the owner. Also I am not sure every problem can be considered. Like rattling sound or squeaky brake.

My Odometer screen has just gone blank and I couldn't accelerate beyond 15mph. This is after numerous previous faults! Just awaiting Volvo on call.
