1st Volvo - 08 XC90

I wanted to put this out there in the event someone has had an issue similar to this with previous XC90 models.....I've had this 08 XC90 for about 3 months (it was a demo), this mileage is about 8K and this morning was the 3rd time I could NOT put the car into gear. I had my foot on the break, but the gear shift would not budge!!! After sitting in the car for about 5 minutes (letting it idol), I was finally able to shift into gear.
Has anyone ever had an issue like that?? Is there something I'm doing that would cause this to happen?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

Hi smjb08, Welcome to the forum.
I ran into a shifting issue our '05 XC90, and after I complained about it, our dealer downloaded a new set of codes for the trans. Once they did that it took care of the problem and its not come back.Since your situation seems to clear up after sitting for a while it's difficult to imagine it's mechanical (unless temperature related somehow) and may also be in the code. Check with the dealer on any updates they can download for you and that may solve your issues. In any event it should be a warranty matter that they can clear up for you in short order.
I was at our Volvo dealer yesterday and looked at the '08 XC90. I like the styling cues they added/changed since our '05 model!
You'll notice there's not a whole lot of tech info available yet on the XC90, much less for the V-8 AWD, so keep us posted as to what the fix ultimately is, so we can start to build the database!
