Question 2003 xc90 2.5 DIM or ICM issue? Please advise

Hi everyone - looking for some advise. I have a 2003 XC90 2.5. The entire dash blanked out. It lights up on occasions, sometimes when I start the vehicle, push the odometer trip button. Around the time the dash gave out, the Check Stop Lamp light lit up and most recently the radio does not power up. Any ideas on what this could be? I heard the DIM or ICM could be the cause. I am at a loss and don't want to spend the money, $1,800 quoted by the dealer, to fix. Thanks to anyone who can help in the right direction or direct me to someone who can do the work for a good price. I live in Illinois. Would anyone want to purchase it? It runs fine with the exception of the above problems.

I was able to have the DIM, rear brake relay & radio repaired. I obtained a remanufactured DIM from XeMODeX.com. The Check Stop Lamp was the brake releay switch. A previous mechanic placed it in backwards. My radio was fixed by adding fuses where a previous mechanic removed them. I am now repairing my CV axle as they are shot. It has 190,000 miles on it now nad is running good with the exception of the CV axle which will be repaired within the month. Thanks to all those who helped. Just kidding - no one helped. This forum is a waste of time.

A waste of time huh? The advice is free and most people don't have the knowledge to fault trace problems like CAN problems over the internet. I can guess, but guessing at expensive items like that isn't a good idea. I also get paid at work to fix these cars and get paid elsewhere to answer questions. So there is little incentive for me to help someone guess.

The brake relay cannot be installed backwards, so your "fix" doesn't even make sense.

Yeah, what he said...... I read your post, but didn't have an answer for you... so I moved on..... You're better off with no answer, than to deal with a pseudo know-it-all specialist that can make you spend money on the wrong parts..... Lots of times, you need the vehicle in your face to adress and pinpoint faulty parts.....

Default It is a waste of time.

It is and was a waste of time. I had this thread posted in January looking for help and these are the first 2 responses I received. Responses defending what no one ever did. It is a joke. Lets just leave it at that. If you want to continue defending what you never did, go right ahead. But I repaired my issues without anyone responding. It was a waste of time. I kept looking regularly to find if someone would/could have a response. No one ever did until after the problem was resolved with no solution but defending doing nothing. This is and will be my last post ever on this forum because it is a waste of my time.

And me helping people here could be viewed as a waste of my time. Glad you're gone.

What an attitude. You have contributed nothing to the forum and in your very first post you expect someone to hand you solutions on a plate.

To tell you the truth I often have advice for first time commenters. That I don't offer. Because I know they're a drive-by that will take the information, fix their problem and disappear without so much as a thank you.

No-one here owes you a thing.
