2004 XC90 HID headlight failure

The headlights on our 2004 XC90 T6 failed completely while on a mountain road. Has ayone else had this problem and how was it repaired. The dealer is telling me that I need a $650 module and the labor/download is another $500. The message center indicated low beam failure but I had NO headlights at all.
Any suggestions?

It can be the C.E.M. and/or the headlight ballast. There are many other things but these are the two that I run into. The CEM is very expensive and does require a download since it is the module that communicates with everything. Not the first time I have seen it.

I would think the ballast. Swap bulbs to see if that works.

Any luck?

checking to see how you resolved this issue. I've been experiencing the same problem since July. Like with you, everything has been checked and the bulb replaced with no luck. I'm not looking forward to dropping $600+ for a module especially since i have an oxygen sensor that also needs to be replaced.

Is there anyway to test to see if its the C.E.M. or the ballast? My wifes 2004 XC90 lost the low beam, and I tried two different bulbs today, and neither one of them worked.
