2004 XC90 Lower Engine Mount Replacement

My mechanic told me that I need to replace the lower engine mount on my 2004 XC90 2.5T. An example link is below for this part. This part is also called "front insulator" or "engine pad".

2003-2006 Volvo XC90 Engine Mount - Engine Mechanical - Anchor, Front, Rear Lower, Rear 03-06 XC90 Engine Mount - 889-05270568 - PartsGeek

Can someone help me with the instructions? Photos are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

sure guy. what i would do first is disconnect the the the starter cable at the top by the fuse box (i dont know how how big your extensions are). next thing to do is take the top nut on the motor mount off. then when you have the nut off you take the lower torque mount off (so you dont break it). then once you have the torque mount out. you take one of the front subframe bolts and loosen it until it is only on there by a couple of threads. then once it is loose you do the same to the other side. then you take the bottom bolt for the motor mount and then once you take it off you should have enough room to taker the mount out and replace it from the bottom. line up the tab and bolt everything back together. takes about 10 to 15 minutes with air tools and a rack but shouldnt take that much longer on the ground

Thank you damien360. Couple of things I don't understand:
- When you say "then when you have the nut off you take the lower torque mount off (so you dont break it)."
Do you really mean take the lower bolt off?

- I am not sure what a subframe bolt is. I was under the vehicle today to understand what you were referring to, but there are a few bolts in that area. Do you happen to have photos?

Thank you.

sorry for the confusion.
what i meant to say is just take the lower torque mount entirely off of the car. its held on the subframe by 2 18mm nuts and 2 13 or 14mm on the transmission.
at each of the 4 corners of the subframe is an 18mm bolt that holds it onto the body. the front 2 are the ones that you will need to loosen.
sorry i dont have have any pictures to help you out. just going by memory from all of the mounts that i have done.

damien360, thank you once again :)

I am a bit confused. If I take the mount entirely off the car, isn't the engine going to land on the frame? i.e. do I need to lift the engine or something? if so, how?

Also, you are saying it's held on the subframe by 2 18mm nuts and 2 13/14 mm. I included a link for the part (part #5 in the link). I only see an opening for the bolt (at the bottom) and a nut (at the top). Am I missing something?

Once again, thank you.

damien360, I think I know what you are talking about. You must be referring to the lower transmission mount which has two 18mm nuts and two 14mm bolts.
What I want to change is the lower engine mount.

yes you have to drop the subframe in the front in order to get it to come out. the reason i tell you to take the outher mount off is so you dont put too much stress on the rubber part.

damien360 Nov 24, 2013 05:52 PM

if you take the front lower engine mount you still have the upper mount, lower rear mount, and the thower right mount holding it up so you will be ok. the mount however is only held on my a nut at the top and a bolt at the bottom.
