Question About to buy a 03 xc90

Hi, I am not new to volvo my first car was a 88 760 turbo and I just loved it. Then I stepped up to a 96 platinum limited edition turbo 850 and loved that one even more. I have now been an audi guy for a a couple of years (AWD cars) and like them as well but I like the interior and looks of the xc90 a lot. I wonder if they are a good buy. It is a 03 xc90 with 75000 miles it has the 2.5t engine and a tow package. From what I can tell fully loaded. They want 13995 for it. I test drove it and it rides like a dream and has no funny noises or anything that I could tell wrong with it. I would be using it to tow a single place snowmachine trailer once a week or so. What is the gas mileage? It has to be the same as my 02 expo with a v6. Any advise is good. This is off topic but They have a bmw x5 and a mercedes ml320. Would those be any better? I like the volvo more tho. Also the salesman said there may be a warrenty I can buy that would tack on about $40 a month it would stretch my budget a little but would it be worth it? Thanks Kyle from ALASKA

I think you might be able to beat them down on the price a little, I just bought an 04 W/ 70k for 13k,I would offer them 11K.( never pay the asking price, that is just a starting point for negotiating) I would definetly buy the warranty, We ended up paying $2,800 for a 2yr/24K warranty. 8 days later we blew a coil pack and the drivers seat control module went. The bill was $ 1,000. Thank god we bought the warranty.
Gas mileage all depends on driving style, but I drive it like I stole it, and I get 15 in town and 18 highway.
Hope this helps, and let us know how you make out.

That price is way high ( but I'm comparing to Southern California prices). Currently there are '06 XC90's 2.5T w/ under 30K miles, selling for $17K (includes warranty till 50K or 4 yrs).

My '06 2.5T gets 15-16 miles/gallon mixed (70%city/30%hwy) driving. Best highway I can get is 20/gal.

I'd consider the bimmer, but not the benz

Stay away from the 03 XC90 T6 AWD models. These have chronic transmission problems. I just managed to get mine replaced by the dealer after it failed at 60K miles. Not everyone is as lucky. Google xc90 transmission and you'll see hundreds of entries. I love the car other than the transmission so I am hoping this new one will work better. According to the dealer, this one is not a GM tranny like the originals.

MOTHER OF GOD. DO NOT BUY THIS VEHICLE. PERIOD. Either you have not done your homework or you have very, very deep pockets. If this XC-90 was given to you then the VERY deep pockets comment still applies. I can't speak for any other Volvo model but my 2006 XC-90 is a pig and I'll never buy another Volvo as a result of my 2006 model literally falling apart under me. And we bought (over paid) it brand new.
