Aftermarket headlights
 
Hello everyone, have a 2005 xc90 with awful halogen headlights. Tried to sand, but no luck. Thinking to buy some tyc cause the dealer is asking an arm... my question is: did someone replace his headlights more than 2-3 years ago. How did it last. I know it’s cheap and I’m not allowed to expect miracles, but still want to have an idea. Thanks a lot everyone, regards.

I bought the TYCs about 3 years ago. Mine are still like new. Although I keep my xc90 in the garage most of the time. But what you can do is buff some uv protective coating on them and it will make them last longer. I think they are a great investment. Makes it look so much better and lights are brighter as well.

Another option is to wet sand the headlamp lenses and finish with 800 grit wet sand to get them smooth and uniform.

Then, ask a local body shop to spray clear on them the next time that they set up to shoot a panel or small job. The headlights come out of the vehicle very easily. This is the best "repair" out there.

Thanks a lot Perrin, that’s what I was thinking about, to put some 3M clear film on them since new, to have it as an additional protection. Thanks a lot once again for the input. Regards.

About the sanding, I’ve tried it, the problem is, it’s burnt from inside and the cracks are top deep to bake it and take them apart for cleaning. The previous owner was running on full lights all the time.... so don’t have much choise. Thanks for input anyways. Regards
