Aftermarket Rims and 10mm Brake Rotor Bolt

2004 Volvo XC90 T6 AWD with 18" rims.

I would like to swap the rims out for something different. I would also like to step down to 17" so I could have a better tire selection.

I have found a couple Enkei rims that I like but Tire Rack told me they wouldnt fit due to a 10mm bolt being in the way. They said it was the small bolt that holds the brake rotor on. Couldn't I just remove this bolt? Isnt it just to keep the rotor lined up with the hub until you get the tire bolted on?

Has any one else ran in to this probelm? What do you guys recomend. What about runing a small wheel spacer? I havent really looked in to spacers. I dont know if they are a good or bad idea.

The tires I would like to run are Yokohama Geolander A/T-S in a 235/65/R17. I would like a better tire for winter than the typical street tread, but I dont want to have to run a dedicated snow tire.

Thanks for your time.

That bolt is just a convenience, not a necessity. Don't add spacers.
If you need spacers, you've chosen the wrong wheel.

That is kind of what I was thinking. Just remove the bolt. I am looking at a set of Enkie PKR's. I am not to sure on the fitment though. They have a 38mm off set and have a bore diameter of 72.62. Enkie says they will fit but I just am looking to make sure before I buy a set. It looks like there is plenty of room between the calipar and the rim around the out side. The factory wheels hug the front of the calipar pretty tight and that is what concerns me.

Thank you for your time.
