Default black roof panel

Anyone know why the rear section of the roof panel is black and not the same as the rest of the body panels?

Because that is part of the Radio antenna for the car.

Huh, I learned something new, who would have thunk-it.

Any special reason why? Just something different?

OK, thanks. Interesting, so what made Volvo think the paint would block the radio signal? I wish at least they would use a lighter color other than BLACK! Is that a plastic panel?

It is so that the signal is not obstructed by steel roof while still concealing the antenna/s. I placed mysatellite radioantenna under there and it gets great signal strength.

Quick question: How did you get the satellite antenna under the panel?

Notice the back end of the headliner is plastic. Open the rear hatch and remove I think 2 to 3 screws from the rear headliner panel, pull down the panel and you will have access to where the FM tuner is located. There is a metal bar that goes across the roof, since my GPS antenna was magnetic I juststuck it there with the GPS side facing up. I then ran the wire within the molding to thefront of the car and under the dash so that all the wire is hidden.

It looks good (no wire or antenna in sight) and the reception is excellent.
