There should be 2 of them. One on the bottom of the radiator and one on the back of the motor.

Default Location clarification

I expected to find on at the bottom of the radiator, however, never did find it. I removed the bottom radiator hose, however, this was somewhat more difficult than necessary. Is the drain plug on the center of the radiator, passenger, or driver side, and front or back? The back of the motor option sounds good. How could I tell the drain plug by looking? I checked Chiltons but they just say "drain the radiator fluid". Great; I got that.

Thanks for any advice.

The drain looks like a little nipple sticking out from the block about half way down on the passenger side by the timing cover.

I forget on the radiator but it should be in the bottom of the tank.

I have in the past two days crawled under my vehicle to locate the drain and found none. The bottom of the radiator is coverd with the skid plate. Please help. A picutes would help a lot.

Smile XC 90 radiator drain location

I did not find the drain on the radiator after removing the large black plastic skid plat over the bottom of the engine, also to access the oil drain plug. I removed the bottom drivers side radiator hose from the radiator. The next time, I will try to find the engin plug referenced by the tech earlier in this thread.

If you do find the radiator plug, please let me know. It should not be that hard to find, but it seems to be. Volvo is trying to keep the sevice work at the dealer. There is no other reason to hide the radiator drain plug.

Driver's side (opposite to lower radiator hose).
NOTE: You will not see it unless you remove the metal splashguard (6 bolts ).
