Okay, I have an interesting issue. I have access to an XC90 that had a bad DIM with 86,000. The previous owner replaced the DIM with a used DIM that had 152,000 on it. The car has been driven for about a month with the used DIM.

If I get a new XEMODEX DIM, will it read the old mileage of about 86K or will it inherit the new "used" DIMs mileage of 152,000?

I went to the local Volvo dealer, who called Volvo direct and they would not give me an answer. They said that they could not read the mileage from the ECU, they could only get it from the DIM. That seemed fishy to me.

You will get 86k mileage. But there will be errors message (inside DIM and won't be shown on the dash) about mileage correction.

It seems that people believe it will take the mileage from the ecu/sem. Why do you believe it will take it from the new used DIM?

I am new to Volvo so I am looking for direction before I go and by a new DIM.

I have programmed used units customers brought me and the CEM took the mileage from the used DIM.

 

So is there anyway to get the miles from the ECU/SEM instead?

 

Not that I know of. I thought the CEM stored the mileage but it seems the DIM stores it and communicates it with the CEM. It could be different for different years, I don't remember the years I have had experience with.
