Hello, the engine of a 2006 volvo xc90 will cost too much to fix, i found a used 2008 engine to replace, can i put a 2008 engine in a 2006 volvo xc90?

google "volvo modular engine wiki" - you can find a summary of each engine by its descriptive code and what models/years use that variant. there's also some details about the generation changes. For example, if you have the T5, you probably have the B5254T2 engine (there should be a sticker on timing belt cover or it may be noted on a build plate - otherwise you can decode your VIN's position 6/7 to find the engine code. If its a 59, you have a B5254T2 which was used from 03 to 2012 in the XC90s as well as other models. To know if you have a clean swap, you'd need to know both engine codes to see if there were any major feature changes to the head or block.
