Help..Engine System Service Maybe code P2131

I have a a 04 XC90 with 74000 miles and the engine sevice message came on. Auto Zone gave a code of P2131. Tried the DTCS (?) in car with scrolling down and no codes came up. It only read stuff like....BCM checking ect. Some things came back as ready. Can anyone help..please?:) I do not like our Volvo service dept here. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!!:D

i've checked my DTC manual that "P2131" means "Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch 'F' Circuit Range Performance", so if it is the question, you can have it done. If not,you can have a scanner to diagnose and read the fault code in your car and check engine light.

Thanks Jack. I had it read and then canceled. The next day, it came back on. Is this something that can easily be fixed? Will it hurt the car if I drive it? The car runs the same with the light on as it did before.

Just had the brake pedal position sensor (located on the brake housing/booster) replaced and the code (P2131) cleared. After starting the car once, the light came back on and the same code is being read. (The code was also read from the dealer). What else could it be? I have noticed that while pressing on the brake pedal, it is hard for me to get the car out of park. Thanks for the help.

Guys i had the same issue with the P2131 code and replaced some of the same parts. It ended up being a dirty mass air flow sensor!!! The computer picked up on a unstable idle and dropped that code. Get some sensor cleaner for $5 and give it a try. The light and code in my 04 XC70 has gone off and has not come back. I should have done that first.

Sorry, For you new shade tree grease monkeys the mass air flow sensor is the round piece on the first part of the hose coming from your air filter box. Disconnect the wire lead and take the cove off as if you were changing the filter. ther is a hose clamp that you have to remove to get the cove off. Once this is done you have full view of the Mass air flow sensor for cleaning. Let it dry before you re-install and try to crank.. Good Luck!!
