First post here and I already need help

I am a BMW man, and very handy with all mech work. My my wife drive a 2004 XC90, My problem. I am about to replace her rotors when I realize that the new OEM volvo rotors are larger than the ones in the car.


Part # of new rotors 30657301 (13 1/4in)

Part # of old rotors 30636074 (12 1/5in)

Pads # of new pads 30657305

I order the OEM parts online and supplied the vin# when placing the order. The rotors I got are larger. The pads seems to be the same. Are the rotors interchangable???????????????????????????????????? ??

Part #30657301 is for 17 inch wheels.
Part #30636074 is for 16 inch wheels.

VADIS does not show the part # for the pads as in your post but it does show two different size pads, again for 17 and 16 inch wheels.

Looks like you may have been sent 17 inch rotors and 16 inch pads.

I would say they are not interchangeable.

 

I'm bit confused. My wife's car calls for the 17" rotors as it is a 2.9L AWD T6. But the rotors that I removed are 12.5in. Will the calipers be the same for the 16in and 17in wheels.

Also the car came with 18" OEM volvo wheels????????



So I wil try putting the 13.2in rotors with the calipers that are in the car and see what happens. Wish me luck.

 

I doubt they will fit. There isn't enough clearance between the caliper and the edge of the rotor. The rotors will fit on the wheel hub but you will find you won't be able to get the caliper bolted back on.

Sorry to read about your troubles with the brakes parts ordering. Last fall we had the dealer install new front rotors and pads on our '05 XC90.

From the invoice and the boxes therotors came in (I kept them, don't ask me why) here are the part numbers:

rotors: 30657301 (this number is on both the box and invoice)
pads: 0274331 (on the invoice only, I just threw away the pads last week


The rotors you received are exactly what was installed on ours. The only things that come to mind is that our Volvo is an '05, and has18 inchwheels...I don't know if larger wheelsautomatically mean larger brakes/rotors.

Maybe a call to your local Volvo parts counter would clear this up.

Also, I found a source here close to Detroit I plan to try in the future. They already helped me over the phone with parts questions on filters and so on. You can find them at www.swedishengineering.com. They have an online parts catalog, and I also talked to Ben there and he was very helpful.

if your handy with mechanical work you'll see that the caliper wont fit over the rotor to bolt back on its bracket. Also why didnt you goto your volvo dealer and get them from the parts dept? They can see the VIN # and tell if you have 16 or 17inch brakes, Takes out the guess work and you estabilsh a relationship with them for future purchase of parts..


I dont see why everyone is so anti dealer..

 

I called the dealer and I was told to remove the wheel and measure the rotor.
