Default map udate gone sour!

Bought a xc90 2008, with a working Navigation system, the former owner thought he would do me a favor and update the maps before selling it. Well
the (gentleman) used a burned copy and the install went sour. It partly downloaded and then the unit froze and says to insert disc. Well after re-dealing and getting a lower price i bought the car.
I have had a volvo dealership try and reboot the MMM they also contacted volvo engineering as they can't get the unit unfrozen. Upon start up it says its waiting for the update disc. My question is I can replace the unit with another with exact same part number but do I have to have volvo match the unit to my car or will it just drop in? Volvo of course wants me to buy a unit from them for 2022.78
Or does anyone know a shop that can reformat the hard drive to accept a new set of 2017 discs which i bought.

The latest map disk for an 08 is 2015. Sounds like you bought and used the wrong disk. You need to make sure the disk(s) are for My XC90 07-

Hi Chopper man,
I haven't used the discs i bought, the guy i bought the car from used a burned copy and it went sour, the dealer can't reformat the hard drive, and Volvo engineers can't get it to work either. Its stuck at the point with the screen stating that there is 220 remaining for the download but the unit will not read the disc.
