New 2008 XC90 - Some Questions
Hello everyone,
I got my mother a 2008 XC90 as a replacement for her 1998 Volvo S70.
A distraught driver rear ended that car, and... that was it.
That S70 is an elegant vehicle... always liked it.
Anyway, my mother fell in love with how easy she can ingress/egress from the XC90.
So, she now has a XC90 V8.
Don't ask me why the V8... it just happened!
Anyway, I got some questions regarding the vehicle.
I am an experienced mechanic, so I will be doing everything myself.
It has 74,000 miles on the clock.
Trying to start with a "clean slate" in our Maintenance Ledger, I am going to do:
- Oil/filter change
- air filter
- fuel filter
- ATF drain/fill
What else would you suggest?
Does anybody have a link for the maintenance schedule for these cars?
The dashboard LCD is throwing the "Anti-Skid Service Required".
I read that it is probably the sensor ring around the steering wheel...
So, that one is pending to fix.
The other thing, I am going to do a complete tear-down and rebuild of the a/c system.
It is a big task, yet, thankfully, I have done this procedure various other times, in various other vehicles, and all of them always end up factory-spec HVAC system.
The reason for this is:
The a/c is blowing hard, yet the cold air is so-so.
I checked under the hood, and some crappy mechanic looped the heater core.
Crappy mechanics love to do that here locally.
Then I hooked up my gauges to the a/c system, and the Low side is too high, and the High side is too low.
So, me being compulsive with this things, I ordered a new compressor, evaporator, dryer (accumulator), expansion valve, o-ring set, and heater core.
Nothing a Saturday and Sunday won't fix.
I will post up a cool HowTo thread once I finish up.
Please let me know what else you think I should check.
PS: I saw a thread somewhere else where a guy changed the alternator in this V8...
What the hell Volvo? What the hell...

You're going to replace the evaporator without knowing it is leaking? Have fun. And not replacing the condenser? The condenser is a common leak on the XC90, and WAY easier to replace. Or you can throw everything at it if you want.
The maintenance schedule is in the owner's manual, which is available on Volvo's website.
