OBD scanner recommendations?

Hi all!

I've had my eye on an XC90 for quite some time, and just purchased a 2006 2.5.

After installing a brand new battery yesterday, I'm getting the 'air bag-urgent' message on the dash.

I see this is a pretty common problem, but instead of taking it to the dealer every time I replace the battery in the future, can anyone recommend a particular scanner that will not only scan, but also reset this code error?

My current scanner (Actron CP9580) won't even acknowledge a connection with this Volvo.

Thanks in advance!

air bag codes are totally separate from OBD II. you won't find a scanner to deal with it at parts store or any independent mechanic.

however any OBD II scanner should work just fine with the Volvo to read the OBD codes. they are universal. just not air bag. so there may be something wrong with your scanner.

there is few Volvo specific OBD scanner, expect VIDA dice kit. A ELM327 Bluetooth/WIFI scanner works not that good.

The BSR PPC diagnostic tool will read and reset it. I just did the same on my 2002 Volvo V70 AWD 2.5 turbo.

Hi, I have a SAAB and after extended research, instead of buying aTech2, I bought Lunch X431 Diagun III from Ebay around $700.
That tool is amazing and it covers every single make and model of cars.
I bought a XC90 3 days ago and first thing I did, I scanned the car with that.
It has so many options and can do pretty much anything.
I've done a lot of changes with that to my SAAB, programming keys, activating walk me home light, adjusting alarm volume etc.
Good luck

PPC BSR diagnostic tool for sale - used once, new

I had a 2002 V70 AWD. I purchased a PPC BSR diagnostic tool from Sweden or Norway. I paid $235 for it. Best purchase I ever made. Simple to use, reads and resets all codes...including air bag codes. I just sold my Volvo and would be willing to sell the PPC BSR for $200 + shipping. Only used it once and I just purchased it in January.

PPC® Diagnostic System can read and erase all DTCs from all control units in a Volvo car...not only the engine control unit (ECU) but all units. In all it handles nearly 40 different con- trol units and more than 8000 diagnostic trouble codes.
PPC® Diagnostic System can also reset the service indicator.
Works with all Volvo cars from 2001 and forward in the 40N/50/60/70/80/90 series. Doesn’t work with the old S40/V40 (1996-2004), old C70 (1998-2005) or new S80 (2007). PPC® Diagnostic System always contains a PPC® unit and OBDII cable.
