Potential buyer w/ question
Question removed.
I find it unsettling that so many questions on this forum are viewed, but few if any responses are given. But thanks for reading. |
Hi DBCooper,
please do not have this attitude. Every body answers what he knows right? Pls. write back your question, I will do my best to return to you if it's in my field of knowledge and then you will never know who answers back! you simply have nothing to loose right? Regards |
There are far more questions than answers.
Inquiring minds want to know and not everyone has an answer, but many of us share the same problem. Ed |
If it were a question concerning a V70 I could help, but i'm awaiting my 90, so I can't help much.

Guys, sorry for the attitude. I just got paranoid thinking that the site was lurking with car dealers (mine included). Here's my question:
I'm looking at an 2007 XC90. CarFax said that it was never in an accident but showed, among other things: axle shaft replaced after 65,000 miles; electrical system checked at 65,000 miles; front wheel bearings replaced at 70,000 miles; engine/powertrain computer/module reprogramed at 81,500 miles; battery charging system checked at 80,000 miles; and electrical system checked at 82,000 miles. Are these red herrings? Do XC90's have issues with axle shafts or electrical systems? Is checking electrical system standard? I'm assuming that the driver was reporting electrical problems and the dealer couldn't identify/fix. Thanks. |

Want my advice, what is the hurry for? keep looking for a cleaner record. 2008 in general are more reliable than the 07. pls. keep us posted. Good luck |
Thanks, AR. Of course you're right. I just needed someone to say it. My heart says buy it now, my head says, don't be an idiot. Spent the last few days looking at mid-sized SUVs. Not surprisingly, we're getting some fairly attractive deals (they're asking under $20K for that '07 XC90, and another dealership just offered us an '08 VW Toureg for under $23K w/ a 2 year warranty). I love Volvos (have already owned a 240DL & XC70) but in this economy, I just can't afford any surprises. I'll likely end up picking up something boring but dependable.

Don't get me wrong, you are definitely better of with an XC90 than the VW Touareg, for so many reasons, it will take pages to explain why. I think you have made the right decision, it is a great car, provided of course you find the right clean one.
Keep looking. Good luck |

Don't worry, the Touareg isn't even in the running. We're leaning toward a Forrester, Murano, or Highlander. SIGH.:(
I thought I would chime in on this. I have a 08 XC90 3.2, it currently has about 40k miles on it. Some things that I would suggest when looking to buy an XC90 would be to see if it has been serviced per the recommended schedule. I bought mine used from a volvo dealer and it was certified pre-owned so as the 2nd owner, I still got the factory warranties. I also bought the extended warranty which has no deductible. Those checks may be part of the scheduled maintenance - you can ask any Volvo service dept. about it and they should be able to let you know if that was preventative maintenance or if a problem arose. Each service every 7.5k miles has a set list of things that will be done. My wife and I have a '08 XC90 and a '07 S60 - I've kept both serviced and neither have ever broken down or had any issues whatsoever. |
Thanks, sweede. We just pulled the trigger on a certified Toyota Highlander. Impressive warranty. Not sexy. Not fun. But it's what we need at this point. I'll have to have to start saving for that S60.

Man, I read this whole thread only to be disappointed at the end ;p
