Default Do the 2003-2006 2.5T xc90's have trans problems

I was going over reviews on these cars and everyone says the t6 has the trans problems but alot of the 2.5 reviews stated having transmission problems. Im looking for a AWD with the 2.5 and wondering if its a reliable option.

Any info is appreciated

nothing is immune from trans issues. does one trans have more issues than others? YES, a big yes. The 2.5's have a trans that is reliable but they do break without the proper maintenance. The T6's how ever do break more frequently than others. Its a GM trans in a Volvo, recipe for disaster. :/

My experience may be a little different than others on this forum but my 2004 XC90 T6 has been extremely reliable for 100,000+ miles. That includes the transmission. My tranny fluid is still a nice pink and the car still drives like new. That being said, we also are religious about maintenance. May be why my 97 960 wagon keeps going strong after a quarter of million miles.

My sense is that forums tend to be frequented by those with problems looking for solutions. Most people just drive their cars and don't do forums. Therefore, you may get the feeling reading these posts that there are more problems in the real world than there really are.

As a comparison, take a look at all the bad comments on the Toyota Camry and Corolla forums about these vehicles. And they are supposedly tops for reliability. Again, your real world experience may vary.
