Default Does the new XC90 plug-in hybrid come with an integrated break controller?

Hi All,

We have a new (2022) XC-90 recharge with the towing package, and we are having a hell of time getting Volvo to tell us whether the vehicle comes with an integrated controller. We tried taking the car to an RV installation specialist who says there isn’t a standard place to install the break controller in the dash, but we can’t get confirmation that is because the controller is integrated. Any help is appreciated!!

An easy way of determining if there's a brake controller already installed in your vehicle would be to have an RV shop check the electric brake output at the connector on the car. A well equipped service department will have an electric brake tester that can assure the vehicle (equipped with an integrated OEM or aftermarket brake controller) is outputting the correct voltage to activate the trailer's electric brakes. Clearly disappointing that Volvo cant tell you the full answer of what the vehicle has. Perhaps asking the parts department for the part number of a replacement brake controller would let you know if Volvo even lists one to repair a failed unit. I would think if they don't list a part then your vehicle doesn't have one installed.

Hey,
Was looking around on another site because I'm looking to get an XC90 T6 (2019 0r 2020) and was wondering about how well it might tow a 20' travel trailer (fully loaded is 4,400lb.). There were some posts that specifically answered your question about inclusion of a brake controller with the tow package (No - its not there). You might like to read.
See www.swedespeed.com and specifically "Hauling a trailer with a 2016 XC90 - software / brake controller question". Seemed to have lots of specifics.
Good Luck!
