trailer hitch connections - xc90
Hi everyone - I have searched through old threads but not found an answer...
I have an xc90 (2008). I just had a towing rig installed by the dealer. Everything works well and I can tow a 21 ft boat BUT I can not connect a 7 round to 5 flat pin adapter so I can back up. A "standard" adapter will not connect properly. The marina guys thought it was because I needed some kind of Volvo-specific adapter but my dealer's parts people can't find anything. It must be a "Euro" issue in that the female connection is set up for European pins?? Has anyone come across a solution for this? As it is -- I have to connect the flat 5 to the other connector on the Volvo rig (a 4-pin) and leave off the one extra pin. I can't back up with this configuration. I know about the little metal pin on the trailer that can block out the reversing lock but I'd rather use the 7-5 connection and get the full advantage of paying a lot of money to have the hitch installed by Volvo
.
thanks for any help!!!

Hi;
I'm not too sure if I can help but here is a link with different types of adapter from a local trailer shop. http://www.cerka.ca/catalog/40.asp
Do any of the plugs look like it might work for you?
So, just to clarify. Your Volvo has the 4-pin flat. Your boat trailer has the 7-pin round. Is that it? Would part Part# 40-37205 work?
John.

Thanks. but the issue is none of the regular 7-to-5 pin adapters seem to work. They don't seat properly and the center pin doesn't connect -- making it useless for backing up. I was wondering if the Volvo hitch connections are some Euro-style electrical connection and that's why these 7-5s are not fitting.
