XC90 rear wheel bearing failures

A loud grinding noise from the rear of my XC90 is another wheel bearing failure!
I have seen numerous postings all over the internet about problems with XC90 rear wheel bearings failing at very low milage. I called the Volvo customer service line to ask about a recall. They have no plans at this point. I replaced one set of bearings at 55k miles and now I need another at 70k.

What Volvo service bulletin discusses the replacement, upgraded axle nut, special spline or axle lubricant and plug to keep water out of the assembly? My dealer is trying to stonewall me on this.

RE: XC90 rear wheel bearing failures

There is no fix for this, but last I heard they were trying to come up with some solutions. Your dealer really can't do anything but keep putting new wheel bearings on. They only do what the man says they can do. Depending on where you live, they will go out faster in some places rather than others. For instance, places with lots of snow tend to go through the wheel bearings faster. Here in TN we don't fix them that often. Just keep your eyes open for any updates with your dealers.
