Ford Taurus 16's on my 92 940

Hi all,

I seen online that ford Taurus rims have the same bolt pattern as my 940. So my daughter has an 02 Taurus, so I checked out the fit with her alloy spare rim. I happened to try it out on my rear axle first. After the registering pin was removed, the rim almost slipped on. I had to remove the inner hub locating lip, but then it bolted on. I think the difference is like 1.5 mm or so, and the grinding was no big deal. Just trial and error till it fit.

The rim looked fine on the car, though the offset was wrong. I have since ordered the typical spacers needed for Volvo rim swaps, a 1" pair, and a 1.25" pair.

I found a great deal on 4 rims in excellent shape and a similar good deal on four 205/55 16's. While waiting for the spacers to arrive, I took a closer look at the front rotor...

The offset looked very similar to my stock 15" wheel looking down thru the spokes. So I ground away the lip and tried them on...

They fit great with no spacer required! I think they look great on the car myself and best of all, nowhere on the wheel does it say "ford"... the center caps snap in place and are plain with no markings. I'll be picking up a set of conical seat 12x 1.5 chrome lug nuts to dress it up, but otherwise I'm happy with it. These certainly look better then the 15's, and I will be removing a coil or so to level it out and fill up the wheel well...

It will be interesting to see which of the other spacers I got will be needed for the rear axle. I'll post my result.

At least this gives another option for rims until I can find a set of 17's I'm looking for.

Cheers,
Mike

All 4 wheels are now installed. I used 1.25 inch spacers for the rear wheels. I really like the look and I'm happy with the fit. I'd like to drop the front end about 2", give or take.

Cheers,
Mike

Just got done cutting the front springs on the nine. I did a lot of reading and pondering.. finding cut amounts from 2.5 to 3 coils off of the fronts. I decided to go easy and only cut 1.5 coils... and I'm glad I did! The resulting drop is almost spot on for my taste and it seems to have been a big plus in both looks and handling. I'm not cutting any more. The first side was tricky, but the pass side was a 20 minute operation. It def. helps to have an extra set of hands/helper tho. Now on to do my sons 740 and my friends 740 wagon... [the 87 turbo wagon listed here on the forums that just died... lol. ]

I'll post the pix, I just wish I measured it before the surgery. I'm going to guess it dropped things 1.5 to 2 inches.

Cheers,
Mike

wheel-size.com is a good resource for you. Generally the Ford's 63.4 center bore matches the Gen2 S40s and the 2010+ years for other models. The only other consideration is offset. Most of these Volvo models run ET45 or ET50s and your Ford runs ET42 so the wheels would be about 3/8th of an inch inward for the 50s and about 1/8th of an inch for the 45s.

.
Per mt6127 you need to purchase rims with a 63.4 Center Bore and Offset Close to ET42. Most Volvos have the 5x108 Bolt Pattern which your wagon has also.

.
As for Tires you need to make a comparison using the stock 215/60R16 94T as your point of reference.

.
Example Only - I would recommend a set of 17" as the 03 Taurus are notorious front suspension beaters. Will be pretty rough also.
.
Offset varies for 17" rims from ET43 to ET50, so doable.

Hi, where did you get the 1.26 inch spacers?
rthanks

Figure out your bolt pattern and hub size and you can order them on ebay or even vivaperformace. A lot of them come in metric measurements for thickness.

thanks ordered 1.25 inch for the back and have taurus 16 inch with 215 60 pirellis so will see how they fit and maybe cut the springs.

"So I ground away the lip and tried them on"... where are the lips? so I can prepare for them on the rims? or hubs
thanks
