Default 1991 Volvo 940SE tires and wheels woes - words of warning

My 1991 Volvo 940SE came with : P205/60R15 on what looks like original finned Volvo aluminum rims.

According to Volvo Bolt Pattern Guide Database RimHelp.com The car has the following
OE wheel size: 15"x6" and Bolt pattern: 5x108 Stud size: 12x1.5b Hub center bore: 65.1 Offset: M

I bought a set of winter 195/65R15 on steel rims with correct bolt pattern from a 97 Volvo 850.
Tires install fine, but appear to be right up against brake shoes on front and wont rotate. On the back, the tires are occassionally rubbing on something.

I am now wondering if some wheels from a Volvo 740 (unknown year) SIZE 205 / 70 R15 bolt pattern 5x108mm center bore 65.1 mm are going to give me the same problem or not. Current for sale at: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1385744111

I am thinking of taking the jack and wrench over to the seller's driveway to install right there to verify fit.

Or am I going to have to make an investment in some passenger tire changeover to get some good rubber on the right rims?

Shawn.

The 850s have an offset of about 40mm, the RWD Volvos about 25mm - The offet is the "ET" stamping on the rim that states the distance from the center of the wheel hub to the center of the rim - so if you put rims from an 850 onto a 940, the inside of the rim will be 15 mm (2/3inch) closer to the strut etc.

Wheel-size.com is a good resource for the specifics by model.

Thanks for the education mt6127!
Wheels that fit my car (1991 940SE) are : 6Jx15x25
The ones from the 97 850 that don't fit are: 6.5Jx15x43

For $100, I have learned less for more! LOL

So that should mean that wheels from the 740 (RWD right?) might be a fit!
According to Wheel-size.com, The 740 has a pretty wide variety of wheels and ET sizes though!

Do I need EXACTLY 6Jx15x25?
Will I basically have to try them to see?

Shawn.

Doesn't need to be exact. If you find some ET20s or 6.5 or 7 inch rims with the cooectc bolt pattern and center bore, you will be fine
