will 17" rims rub on an s60?

Hi guys i'm hoping someone can answer this question. My '04 s60 has the original 15" wheels, 195/65R15 i think.....

If I upgrade to the 17" volvo rims with 235/45r17 tires, will i have problems with them rubbing? it's not an awd car.

Thanks for your help!!

If you're sticking with volvo rims you won't have any worries.

You shouldn't have any worries even if you go aftermarket.

That tire sounds a little wide. If you have a 7" x 17"wheel the recommended tire is 215/45/17; If it is a 7'5" x 17" wheel then the recommended tire is 225/45/17. I guess if you have an 8" or wider wheel you would need a 235/45/17 tire. I would think that once you get to that wide of a tread there might be some rubbing at full turn. I just put a set of the Volvo Canisto wheels (7.5" x 17" x 43) on my 02 S60 and there is no rubbing. I have the 225/45/17 tire. The offset would have some impact on this also. A 225 tire with a 43mm offset wheel is right at the outer edge of the fender. A 235 is most likely going to stick out from the fender. It might start to look like a rice burner at that point.[8D]

I'm sure you realize that the ride is going to be quite a bit firmer as you will be going from a 65 series tire to a 45 series tire. This is quite a bit of difference, Of course you will have much more tread on the ground so the handling should be better. I went up from a 205/55/16 and there was a noticible difference is both ride and handling.

All of the S60's with 17's rub when turned full turn.
Unless the tech note was done and the steering limiters were installed. That makes the turning radius even worse then it already is.

But I doubt you will be trying to do doughnuts so you should be fine.

the wheels i plan to buy are original volvo wheels. i dont know what they are called, but they are the same wheels as the black c70 convertible at the top of this web page. poking around ebay, i see a lot of s60s with the same wheel that i plan to purchase, using the 235/45r17 tire size. so i'm hoping it will be okay. when the tires wear out, i'll probably step down to 225/45r17

steering limiters? is this something i can purchase from volvo and install myself?

You could but I wouldn't reccomend it.
Like I said above it makes turning worse than it is now.
How often will you be turning with the wheel cut all the way?

I currently run 235/45 r17 wheels and tires on my 2004 volvo s60 and they do rub when turning lock to lock. I don't like it but it is what it is. I have a 2002 dodge dakota with 295/40 17" and they never touch they are almost 14" wide. But I like to volvo better!:DI may make some spacers for it since I work at a machine shop. I just don't know what a s60 with the wheels sticking out 3" would look like!

I also have 17" Thor on a 2004 V70...They do Rub lock to lock...not a big deal but tmy tires are worn out...tinking of replace with 205/50r17 instead of the 235/45...The wheel calculator at 1010tires.com says it's even a metter match to replace 195/65r15...what do you say...outstanding handling is not important to me...i'd rather go for comfort...so I don't mind a bigger profile...will it help the rubbing...but first...will it fit?

Thanks

Lazier way of prevent rubbing and only slight affect the turning raidius (as bad as it is with original turning radius) after install 17" wheels. Put washers to shim up steering stops on both side.. (my car somes stock with 17" wheels) for my car I put4 washers on each side of steering stops (8 total)to stop the rubbing inside fender well (washer comes with various thickness add accordingly). with thinner tire (225) instead of (235) be aware of the weight rating. Note: With the V70R OEM does not recommend 18" tires due to weight that may be carry in vehiclein cargo area.

That is an interesting option, and cheap!!! Steering stop, where will I find that?
