Engine Swap Costs - Sorry, non-volvo engine
Hi people,
I've got a 64 122. Engine is pretty bad so Im going to be putting in a chevy 262 V6 and a new tranny. Well, not "I", a shop, as I dont have the space, tools, and...oh yeah...skills...
Anyhow, for everything, theyve quoted me about $2000. Assuming the engine and tranny are about $800, is $1200 pretty good for:
1. Labor
2. All custom fabrication work
3. Shortening the driveshaft
4. And I think they are changing some gear ratio in the back end
Ill be doing the suspension upgrades later on.
Any thoughts would be awesome!
Thanks

RE: Engine Swap Costs - Sorry, non-volvo engine
Funny. I was searching around for swap/tranny tips and education - came across this post - started reading it - then realized it was my original.
Then read the post about progress.
Well - no it never got completed. The shop midway had some issues mating the tranny to the engine, started asking for more money, etc, etc. I gave up on it and thought the 122 was long gone. They called the other day asked if I wanted to still pick it up.
So now its in my garage. I think its about time I figure out how to do it myself. I do have some skills with motorcycles, but this is pretty big - so I figure after a good couple of years, it'll all be done.
If you could see the original shape of my 122 - you wouldn't feel bad about chopping it up! If I do start tearing things apart - I'll keep a blog or something with pics. I'm going to plan on tearing the thing down as far as possible - and we'll see if I can get it all together again.
