He should be able to get you KW Variant II coilovers.
-Andy
S70driver 12-21-2005, 12:03 AM KW, also check on Volvospeed. They were talking about a new coilover setup. Samhem 12-20-2006, 05:26 PM I too am also looking for a good suspension set up for my N/A '95 850, and if like everyone says, the KW coilovers are the best i guess that is the way to go, but will someone please explain how they work, and whats different from just a normal shock/spring set up? why are they so much better? thanks S70driver 12-20-2006, 06:02 PM ORIGINAL: Samhem I too am also looking for a good suspension set up for my N/A '95 850, and if like everyone says, the KW coilovers are the best i guess that is the way to go, but will someone please explain how they work, and whats different from just a normal shock/spring set up? why are they so much better? thanks Please search. You can find your answer that way. S70driver 12-20-2006, 06:09 PM I am sorry if I sound rude. But your answers can be solved if you just did a little searching on the internet. A good setup for you would be this. 1. Strut brace (IPD, EST, OMP, VOLVO OEM) 2. KONI and or Bilstein HD shocks/struts 3. B&G, H&R, IPD, APEX Suspension System's lowering springs 4. Most importantly for your suspension get IPD sway bars. Best suspension upgrade you can do. 5. QBM (QuickBrickMotorSports) sway bar endlinks 6. QBM Control Arms ------------------------------- KW Coilovers are so much more then a normal shock/strut and spring setup. Viva Performance sells KW check out their website and see what is said about the coilovers. The ride quality may be harsher though. Samhem 12-20-2006, 06:17 PM ok thank you, no its not rude in the slightest, i fully understand. Thank you for the input i will probably follow your advice exactly. S70driver 12-20-2006, 06:25 PM ORIGINAL: Samhem ok thank you, no its not rude in the slightest, i fully understand. Thank you for the input i will probably follow your advice exactly. P.S.: DO NOT get the IPD Aluminum strut brace. If that is the only one IPD has right now go eith EST, OMP or the Volvo OEM one. Samhem 12-20-2006, 06:31 PM why no aluminum? And also i went to the viva performance site, and read about the KW coilovers, and according to the description, they do in fact seem better than a conventional srping and shock set up, so, not to be rude, do u recomend sticking with shocks and springs? Well Aluminum is fine, but their Aluminum strut brace is a crappy design and wont do squat. So just go with an OMP one EST and or Volvo OEM. Yes KW coilovers are better. But the ride quality could be less then perfect. But you can raise and lower the car a good amount. It is up to you. If I had the money I would go KW Coilovers. Samhem 12-20-2006, 07:14 PM thanks, but i could indeed go with an IPD strut brace that isnt aluminum? If not the KW coilovers, would you consider the Koni FSD shocks a good choice? possibly with ebiach lowering springs, because Eurotune offers a package: http://www.eurosporttuning.ca/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=VLS-480-102&Category_Code=VL-850-su I also say this because on your list of mods for my 850 you excluded ebiach from the list of possible springs. THANK YOU Samhem 12-20-2006, 10:08 PM I also had trouble finding Quickbrick Motorsports Control Arms, could you help? thanks S70driver 12-21-2006, 01:23 AM ORIGINAL: Samhem I also had trouble finding Quickbrick Motorsports Control Arms, could you help? thanks Um yeah. You need to use GOOGLE here and SEARCH. Like type in QuickBrickMotorSports. http://www.quickbrickmotorsports.com/ S70driver 12-21-2006, 01:24 AM After looking at the website. I cannot see them, but e-mail and ask. S70driver 12-21-2006, 01:25 AM ORIGINAL: Samhem thanks, but i could indeed go with an IPD strut brace that isnt aluminum? THANK YOU I forget what all springs are available for the Volvo's. Yes KONI FSD's and Eibach springs would be a great match. Samhem 12-22-2006, 03:03 PM ok cool thank you, i think i will do all of those things, including getting the koni's and ebiachs, because while i do have the money to but the KW coilovers, i would perfer to have more finacial room for other mods. S70driver 12-22-2006, 03:21 PM ORIGINAL: Samhem ok cool thank you, i think i will do all of those things, including getting the koni's and ebiachs, because while i do have the money to but the KW coilovers, i would perfer to have more finacial room for other mods. Just remember a NA cannot go very fast. I had mine (1995 850 NA) up to 135MPH on a open stretch of highway. I would stick with Suspension, Interior styling, Exterior styling. Samhem 12-22-2006, 03:48 PM Ok, i think i will...135? stock? i did have another question as well, do u think that lowering the car an inch or so will be made up for by the stiffer shocks, or will it be more prone to bottoming out? although the majority of the money i will spend on this car is going to suspension things, do u think a new air filter and a new cat back system would benefit me enough to be worth it? S70driver 12-22-2006, 04:47 PM ORIGINAL: Samhem Ok, i think i will...135? stock? i did have another question as well, do u think that lowering the car an inch or so will be made up for by the stiffer shocks, or will it be more prone to bottoming out? although the majority of the money i will spend on this car is going to suspension things, do u think a new air filter and a new cat back system would benefit me enough to be worth it? - To be honest I forget if I had my custom Ram Air Intake or my Custom 2.5" catback system on when I was going 135MPH. But for the sake of things it shouldn't really matter if I had those or not. So yes I went 135MPH stock engine. - Your suspension is going to be stiffer all around with a new suspension upgrade. I think the IPD Sport Springs are softer, but in general he suspension will be stiffer IMO. You shouldn't have a problem bottoming out really. - A new panel filter (K&N, or stock paper) will be a good upgrade. A catback system will be a good add on, but wont add much power (Maybe 5 Hp at the most, maybe 10). Remember you want the catback made with 2.25" piping at the most 2.5" piping with a Flowmaster muffler or any muffler that has baffles in it. A straight through design muffler is too free flowing for the NA, as the NA needs backpressure. Samhem 12-22-2006, 05:39 PM Do you reccomend that i get the IPD springs instead? Does the fact that they are softer mean i will be sacrificing performance? i live in los angeles where there are many cracks and potholes, and this car will also remain a daily driver, but i would like some better handling characteristics. Samhem 12-22-2006, 06:02 PM also, could u recomend a particular Flowmaster muffler, i went to the website, and there are so many choices and variations, none of which are specific to volvo? What is the size of the catback piping on a stock 850? could i just change the muffler or do u need all new pipes, ? thanks a lot S70driver 12-22-2006, 06:08 PM ORIGINAL: Samhem also, could u recomend a particular Flowmaster muffler, i went to the website, and there are so many choices and variations, none of which are specific to volvo? Maybe their 40 series I dunno. As for Volvo specific there wont be one. Just pick one that will fit. The piping of the stock system should be like 2.25" and yes you can just get a muffler but it wont gain you any Hp and just sound. If you want to be like the Honda RICER kids thats ok. IMO get all new piping and a muffler. You can't say you have a full catback system unless you get the new piping and muffler. You can only say I added a muffler to my stock exhaust if you only replace the muffler. Like I said a mandrel bent or even crush bent 2.25" or 2.5" piping with a Flowmaster muffler will sound good and may gain you a little power but not much. Samhem 12-22-2006, 06:19 PM OK cool thank you, i will see about the catback as you said i think i will stick to suspension upgrades. Do you reccomend that i get the IPD springs instead? IPD springs are fine, it is up to you man. No it wont sacrifice performance either. Samhem 12-22-2006, 06:42 PM alright thank you! ALSO, i was wondering how a wider and or larger wheels would effect the handling. currently my 850 has the 15 "cetus," wheels which i believe are 6.5 inches wide. i found another volvo wheel called the "titan," which is 17 x 7 and i was wondering if that would be a good choice and if the extra 2 inches would cause problems when mated with the koni's and ebiachs that would lower the car about 1 inch. S70driver 12-23-2006, 01:16 AM There should be no problems with those rims. Samhem 12-23-2006, 02:54 PM Thank you |
