My 98' V70 recently developed a quirky door lock issue affecting only the drivers door. The remote willlock all doorsand will unlock all doorsexcept the drivers door. I can hear a device inside the door attempting to unlock the door but the knob will not pop upunlocking the door. The knob moves freely by hand and the key unlocks the door. Anyideas?

Thanks

I'm not sure about these newer cars, but the old 240 lock actuators are an electric motor and gear type affair. My 240 has had a non functional passenger actuator for years now, and it started out being 'iffy' at first too, then faded into complete malfunction...it still however makes a sound like it is trying... The only real fix is probably replacing the lock actuator, although you might have luck dissasembling, cleaning, and lubing the original, but don't try it unless you are a fairly good all around tinkerer since it is both electric and mechanical...(and not really designed to be serviced! Bosch makes good parts though, and it *may* be possible to revive). I have never had quite enough motivation to fix mine, as it was my first car with central locking, and I was used to doing it myself, oh well, guess my multiple sessions with the window switches make up for my lock-laziness

Many times the on this model the latch just fails internally.

the electric actuator and the latch mechanism are intergral.

Good luck

My 98 V70 wagon has the same problem.

I took the door apart(which was easy), and watch the locking mechanism for the lock and unlock case.

The eletric actuator is working in both cases, but the lock only moves for the lock case.

I think the white plastic pieces that couple the actuator to the actual lock are either broken or aren't properly connected.

Can I buy the white plastic pieces that connect the actuator to the metal rod connecting to the lock? Is this covered in either Haynes or Chilton guides?

Thanks
Ron

REPL is broken.

The Red Evil Plastic Lever inside the lock breaks when somebody tries to open the door while the driver is unlocking it.

Needless to say that the part is not sold. You need to replace the entire lock assy.

I documented the repair procedure and it is posted at www.volvospeed.com (http://www.volvospeed.com)under the repair section.

I believe I have a rebuilt unit in stock, drop me a line vicrocha @ earthlink.net

Remove the spaces before and after @ for my e-mail address (Otherwise I get too much junk in my e-mail)
