My fiance was in the market for a new (used) car and I happened to spot this 2 owner baby @ an auction. It was acquired for under $3k due to a few lights on the dash and other issues caused by a dying battery!! Thanks to this forum, I was able to dianose it immediately.

I did a cursory inspection before the purchase, so I at least knew the parts needed to make the car driveable: a battery, and it needed a full set of brakes/rotors. But after driving for a few days, the speedometer and odometer went blank, the abs light came on and the winter mode transmission arrow started to blink .... hello Mr. shorted ABS module.
So today I pulled the EBCM and shipped it off to the repair shop. Cost is $50 including shipping, lifetime warranty. Also completed brakes and rotors ($160 in parts) in 3 hrs with my fiance's help. Her favorite job was stepping on the brake pedal while i bled the system, lol. There was brakepad sized groove worn 1/16 deep into the front discs, no way were they ever turned.
While assembling the front brakes, i noticed the outer tie rods have a little play. Near future work: inner/outer tie rods, lower balljoints.

I'm having the same symptom with my '98 AWD, but the code I get indicates incorrect gear ratio. How do you know yours is the ABS module? Did you pull the code? I have a parts car, so I can swap parts and an ABS module is a much easier swap than a transmission.

The same exact thing happened to my C70....I pulled the abs sensor, sent it out to be repaired and then re-installed it. Absolutely 100% fixed the issues @ 10% of the cost.

Reinstalled the ABS module tonight....the speedometer and odometer issue are fixed, but still have the blinking arrow. I will try to pull the code with my obdII scanner. Don't think it works on the transmission codes though. The car shifts fine so far.

Clear the code for the arrow and see if it comes back.... Might be due to the sensor. BTW, clean wagon!
Cleared the eng/trans codes (my OBDII reads transmission codes) and the arrow went away.....but the check engine light came back on with an oxygen sensor code. Oh well, looks like a bit more wrenching is in order.
