Default Can someone run a test for me???

I'm working on my '95 850 and need to know something. If you disconnect the right harnest from the top of the cluster, will the cruise control still work?

I need you to have the following to do the test:
1. 1995 850
2. VDO Cluster (the VDO cluster has the trip mile meter in the center and the total mileage on the bottom).
3. Working cruise control.

I'm starting to think that the cruise control gets it's signal from the cluster. I don't know any other way to be sure since my cruise stopped working after I worked on the cluster/harness.

Thanks and let me know if you have any questions.

I'm thinking someone with a '94 or '95 can lift the edge of their dash and unplug their cluster and let me know. This cluster / cruise problem is driving me nuts.

Default Confirmed!

Hey RSPI,

As promissed, I did the test on my 96 850. I pulled out the connectors on my cluster and Booooing!!!! no Cruise Control. I pulled over reconnected the cluster and it was back.

You are right, it is annoying not having it, lol.

Anyway, I hope this helps narrow down your problem.

LOL, Thanks a million. You are awsome. I was hoping that the '96 was the same as the '95. I pulled a harness from a '96 and it had 1 wire missing so I tried to fix the harness and may not have done a good job.

I'm pretty sure my cluster is bad so I'll go pull the one out of the '95 that just got dumpped there when they run a special/sale. They usually charge $35 for them and I'd much rather get it for $22 - $25 so I may go pull it and hide it. Heck, it's only $13 more dollars, I may just get it since it has the trip with it. Right now my temp gauge and my ambient temp sensor, along with my cruise signal is not working.

Again, thanks you have answered a good question for me.

Just went to Matt's site and found another response to my problem.
http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/for...251862#p251862

It appears that the cluster gets a pulse signal from a speed sensor from the transaxle (where ever that is) and the cluster gets that signal and converts it from anolog to digital. So, either the cluster is bad, the wire harness job I did is bad, or the speed signal from the transaxle is bad.

I know I have a bad cluster so I'll change that first.

I have just pulled my dash pad off to fix my odometer, and did your test. The cruise didn't work either.

Mine is the 95 model with the speedo pulses from the transmission, from 96 onwards there was one less wire and the speedo got its signal from the ABS module.
