Default power steering leak

Tech, I am taking my 2001 c-70 into the dealer next week for a repair to the power steering system. In the past 30 days the reservoir has "emptied out" and yet I do not find any fluid on the garage floor nor do I see any leak from the reservoir itself. Have you ever encountered this problem? Incidently, yes, I do go to the dealer contrary to many of the subscribers of this site. Now that autos do not have common fuel manegement systems and etc, an independant shop cannot aquire the special tools nor can they obtain the computer programs..............in the long run the dealer seems to be the best bet!

If it leaks out pretty slow it will stick on the engine or in the engine bay.The steering oil is very thick and sticky. If you look good under the hood you will probably find traces of it in the engine compartment.

HI, I HAVE A 1997 850GLT AND HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING POWER STEERING FLUID LOSS. IS IT A MAJOR REPAIR TO HAVE THE LEAK STOPPED OR SHOULD I JUST TOP IT OFF WHEN I CHANGE THE OIL? THANKS

5853edso, my problem was the power steering pump. I do not believe in simply "adding" fluids................if you are losing fluid then you can have a catastrophic loss at some point down the road. Think if you suddenly lose all the power steering fluid, the brake fluid, the trans fluid, and etc....................best to find the cause and rectify it! At any rate, the pump was within warranty but since it is generic with all the 70 series, there must be a zillion of them in the wrecking yards.....................

Make sure the hoses aren't leaking which they are known for.
