Default 2001 S40 Engine covers?

On our 2001 S40 the engine cover just under the front bumper was pulled off when my wife backed away from a concrete parking block.
The replacement is Part 8 in the diagram below, although it actually looks like this:

The problem is that the rear edge of the wide engine cover Part 8 doesn't connect to anything on the right side and if it hangs down a bit, it can catch on another parking block and get ripped off.

My question is, do the other two engine covers, Parts 12 and 12a in the diagram, also fit on the US 2001 S40 and connect to and provide some support for the back edge of the front cover? They're in the catalog, but I don't know of they were ever on the car and maybe removed and forgotten at some point.

Thanks,

On my 2001 part 8 connects to part 1 and part 2 in addition to the center connection on the large metal bar that hold the motor mounts. Part 1 and 2 are oriented vertically. It does not hang down abnormally low.

I don't recognize the other 2 covers you posted. I am the 2nd owner though. They may have been removed.

I tried looking for an aluminum skid plate at IPD but they do not have it for the 2000-2004 models. (2005 and up, yes) Can you bend aluminum or steel?

I too was looking into getting a hold of those two covers. I'm the original owner of our vehicle and these are nowhere to be found. I've looked online and I believe that they have been discontinued. In addition I think they would make oil changes more awe ward any way. The large cover should not hang if all fasteners are installed fyi.

The VolvoPartsWarehouse dot com in Watertown CT has them in their online catalog for US$35 each, but I haven't tried to actually order them yet.

Maybe they were never offered on the US models, or they're for diesel or who knows. If they button up the bottom, though, and keep the front one from getting pulled off I would be glad to install them.

If I do I'll report back here. I know I have to buy the front cover in any event.

I agree the large cover should not hang down, but my wife caught it (the new one) and bent it slightly down on the passenger side. There's nothing above that part to attach it to and I'm afraid she'll just catch it again.

Thanks,
-stephen
