Default Keys, Fob, Receiver, allowed?

I brought in a brand new key fob to my Volvo dealership and they were only able to burn the chip, they were not able to program it. I was told the receiver in my vehicle was the problem.

First question is where do I locate it? 30857626 I have been told it is in the engine bay but am questioning this? I can not find it despite looking exactly where it should be.

Secondly how many keys are allowed for a Volvo? I brought in a working key(I drove to dealership with a key that worked and now it no longer will because they programmed a new one) and was told that it will no longer work for my vehicle. So basically I left dealership with exactly what I went in there with and that was 1 working key. I expected two, the one I went in with and a second which I was paying for but they bumped off my first one and I left with a second one programmed so I still only have one working key.

Something to do with former owner having 6 keys assigned?

Thanks much appreciated any insight!

You are talking about a separate key and remote, right?

6 keys are allowed. If there were already 6 programmed, all need to be erased before programming. Then all keys present can be programmed. Sounds like they only programmed one.

As for the remote, I'm not sure whats going on. "Burning the chip" isn't a thing. You just program it to the car.

Thanks for the quick reply, I am guessing they only erased one, the one that I went in with and I left with a new one.

The remote FOB does have a transponder chip in it (beneath board) and that was programmed to my vehicle, but the board to open locks and trunk they said they were not able to program because I had a bad receiver inside vehicle (30857626)

What I am trying to locate is the receiver (30857626) that works for the remote for unlocking doors, not the ECU immobilizer.

"Burning the chip" is not a thing though. The remote is programmed with software that is downloaded to the car. If it wouldn't program, the receiver is the most likely fault. I believe it's located under the dash on the passenger side, but I've never had to replace one. It may also need programming.

I will look on the passenger side BUT when looking on drivers side I came up with the plug that looks like it should plug into the receiver which is said to have a blue connector. Mine is not plugged into anything, nor can I find where it should be plugged into, I thought it was extra as someone previously thought it was for the footwell light but it is not as mine works.

Well that mysterious blue plug does in fact plug into receiver, it has never been plugged in since I have owned vehicle, I was looking below and could not find anything it plugged into and I went ahead and removed DIM and up above I could see the receiver and plugged it in.

So I have a couple of questions, is there any reason that someone would have disconnected it? I am guessing sloppy workmanship and oversight not plugging it in. I am sure I will soon find out. Previous owner had dash replaced so I am hoping it was an oversight and I do not have any issues by plugging it back in.

The receiver is behind instrument panel, resolved.

The new key always worked, they bumped/wiped my old key that did work when I drove in so I only have 1 working key, the new one, I wanted a duplicate.

Congratulations on finding the receiver! You should be able to check through DiCE/VIDA that the receiver module is functional.

Thanks Mf70

I am assuming it does work since it was not plugged in.
