Default Aftermarket radio - now allowed?

I installed an aftermarket radio on my 2005 S60, and the airbag light came on. After reading about this problem which seems to be common I thought it would be as simple as taking it to volvo and asking them to reset the code.

They told me they cant do that because aftermarket radios arent allowed and only volvo radios can be installed in order to fix the problem.

Is this true or just dealership bs?

Also, title is meant to say "Aftermarket radio - NOT allowed?" and not "now".

I don't have any personal experience with this, but from what I've read that sounds like BS to me. I've been looking into switching my head unit, and this seems to be a fairly common issue people run in to. It has to do with disconnecting the battery when disconnecting certain things in the dash.

I've seen plenty of people with aftermarket radios who don't have the SRS code, I think they're blowing smoke. If you do a search for SRS code and radio, a bunch of threads show up.

If you don't unplug the air conditioning unit below the head unit than yes the light won't turn on. Atleast that's what it's like in my 2001 s80

Ive had an aftermarket radio on my 04 for over a year now
the air bag light come on when you unplug the CCM with the battery still plugged in.
they can absolutely reset the light and the airbag system but at a price
between $25-$150 depending on how the mechanic at the dealership feels that way.
