Need help with fuel pump issue
Yesterday the fuel gauge went crazy on me it said it was full when I know that it only had 1/4 tank, I was told that it was the sending unit and that I could drive it until i could get it fixed well about an hour later the gauge went to empty and the car stalled, Praise Jesus that I was able to coast into a vacant lot. I checked the fuses and found the fuel pump fuse blown. The questions I have are.
2006 Volvo s60 2.5T FWD
1. Is the fuel pump still good and I only need to replace the sending unit
2. are the fuel pump and the sending unit in two different places on the tank? I have the black plastic tank.
3. Is there a fairly price unit(s) out there that a regular Joe can afford?
any help would be greatly appreciated. This s60 is our sixth Volvo that we have owned.

Had a BAD mechanic replace the fuel pump I paid him for a new pump almost $400 plus labor and now when you start the car it will drive about 1/4 mile and act like it's running out of gas and stall. Then you can start it right up and drive about 1/8 mile and the same thing happens, the longer you wait to start the car up after it stalls, the further it seems to go. I asked the mechanic if he put a new fuel filter on and he said yes, I checked and he didn't "My lawyer is giving him a call this week" I put a new fuel filter on and was able to drive several miles before it stalled. I had Auto Zone to pull the code and they said that I needed a new fuel regulator I took it back to the bad mechanic and he said that he put one on, I think that he put on a fuel pressure sensor. Does anyone here know what the problem could be? also when you come to a sudden stop and go around a corner the car stalls every time. thanks . Robert.

Also, one more thing when I went to release the pressure on the fuel fail so I could replace the fuel sensor, there was no pressure although the car had been sitting for a few days.
Update, I bled the fuel rail twice and now the car will run without stalling, can get up to 60 if I creep the pedal but if I try to push the pedal very hard it starts to cut out bad. any thoughts?

I had the codes pulled and they said that the fuel pressure sensor was bad so I replaced it. And it ran better for about a day and then it went back to running the same way. And then last night I read on this site where some one disconnected the sensor, I just did that and the car ran real well other than when going into passing gear where it started to cut out. I am at a loss for that. Does the 06 S60 have the PEM module that gets corroded by the tank?

One more question please, for the last two weeks or so the car would start and run for a few minutes and then stall. I had another car a Mercedes clk 320 that would do that, and it turned out to be the cam/crank shaft sensor I seem to remember the last time I had the codes pulled, about a month ago that they said something about the cam shaft position. what do you guys think?

If the part were bad, the fault codes would be reset - so if you have CEL on, time to scan the codes again and post them up. Not sure if the S60s have similar issues to the S40s where the VVTs have oil leak issues. You may want to pull off the timing belt cover to check if there's any signs of an oil leak. That said, it still sounds like a fuel pressure issue which would need to be monitored with a pressure gauge.

UPDATE!!! still wouldn't start, I was looking at the connections on the sending unit and saw that there was plenty of gas. Pulled out the fuel pump to check the connections and that side of the tank was BONE DRY. pulled the pump to the side and poured 7 gallons of gas installed the pump in and the started right up. drove it about 20 miles and everything seemed ok except for the gas gauge doesn't work. When this car first tore up and the fuel pump went bad we noticed that the fuel gauge was acting odd. How do I fix this?
