trans fluid level
2002 s80 t6 94K mi (used transmission installed at 92K, probably 60K on it). Seeing a few small spots on driveway of tranny fluid, seems to happen very intermittently, middle of car around 3 feet from the front- What is the optimal level on the dipstick (slightly below the hash cold and at least its pink, do I check it hot or cold and if I add some through the dipstick tube what type should I add. Thanks for helping a newbie volvo owner- love the car.

Trans level should always be checked warm or operating temperature.
Run the car for 10-15min till you have heat.
Park the car on a level surface and place it in park , but leave the engine on.
Pop the hood and pull the trans dipstick out, wipe it with a clean rag, and reinsert and pull back out.
It should be between the hash marks, closer to the top the better.
To add, place a funnel in the tube and pour a small amount at a time till you get to your level. Be careful not to overfill. Just a little at a time.
Oh, and use the correct fluid too.
But after you get the fluid at the correct level, I'd have someone look at the trans to determine where the leak is coming from.
