Default 1998 V70 AWD ABS Module

After handing my Volvo dealer over $800 just a few years ago for a new ABS module, I find myself again with the ABS and TRACS lights on. I decided to try to remove it myself this time and send it off for repair. I have tried to follow a couple of videos on Youtube, but things seem to be a little different. I have successfully removed the air cleaner housing, but it's still so cramped in there that I don't see how I can possibly get the Torx screws holding the module out without dropping them or stripping them. I read in another forum that in the 1998, it's also necessary to remove the brake lines. Is this correct? If so, I may throw in the towel. I'm not a car guy and feel like I've already messed with it too much.

Is this really a repair that an amateur can do? If so, what do I need to do to create the space I need to safely remove those bottom two Torx screws? Thanks for any help.

The torx screws are an E-Torx, they are actually a socket rather than a bit. If you have a 1/4" socket set and an extension it is relatively easy. One of the back ones is a bit of a hand cramper but a long 1/4" extension can actually get you below the rats nest of brake lines and it will come off with relative ease. Anyone who has a '96 to 2000 Volvo has gone through this so you might be able to find another Volvo owner in your area to give you a hand.

I've encountered the ame proble mwith my '99 XC... pull out the air filter housing and move the fuse box out of the way... it also helps to disconnect the wiring to the Mass Air Flow sensor. The E-torx scokets are worth te invetment so as not to strip the four retaining bolts which you can feel but not see. Buy them from Amazon.
