Default 1998 v70 t5 - electrical issues

Hello!

I recently bought this car as my first project car. But then I started noticing a lot of things happening.

First the key 'fob' does not unlock/lock my doors on the first push of the button. I replaced the battery, thinking that would do it but it's still not working properly. So I'm going to buy a new one (possibly a bad chip?)

Then the passenger door would not open from the outside. I sprayed the locking mechanism inside the door where it grabs the U shaped hook. That is working properly now.

Then.... My biggest issue is the drivers side door master switch for the windows, locks, tailgate and fuel door are not working. I saw a video on how I can try and repair those but...

Is this just a sign of a lot more issues to come? Or are these typical issues that v70's have?

Thanks in advance!

My opinion is that they are not, but personally I would not spend a nickel trying to get a fob programmed, so I never found out how painful that might be. I have had several 98's around the house and never had any electrical trouble at all.

However, certainly there are more issues to come. It's a 20 year old European car, so it's going to need all sorts of attention. I enjoy fixing them.

@firebirdparts

I assumed it wasn't typical either but I shouldn't be surprised either, as you said it is a 20 year old car.

I'm hoping that I won't have to program a fob and hoping the buttons are faulty. But I'm nervous about the immobilizer. Watching someone I know who owns a Land Rover D2 and his immobilizer issues... I'll pass on that noise lol

Suns out - time to work on the car!

One of my fears about having a fob is that I'd lock the car in "really locked" mode and then it would never run again. I had a 97 with that feature, whatever they called it.
