Engine Growl 00 V70xc
Long time reader, you have all helped me fix my car for all the common issues these cars have. Hoping someone can shed light on an engine growl I have.
2000 V70xc 158k, making a noise that appears to come from the front passenger area (near the serp belt). More pronounced when shifted into gear or coming to a stop at a light.
Recent repairs:
lower passenger engine mount, two upper engine mounts, trans mount, serpentine tensioner/pulley assembly (changed b/c pulley had a lot of play). All heat shields re-secured tightly to body.
Of note: A/C compressor not functioning (but clutch will engage when connected to DC+). Sound seems to go away when car is started w/o serpentine belt attached. No exhaust leaks in the flex pipe.
Could this be a seized compressor making a racket? seems to be coming from alternator/ac/pwr steering pump area. The only other thing I can think of is the front hydraulic mount, but I've read those do not go too often.
I have an audio file of the sound, but it looks like i can't attach that here...
Any speculation appreciated, I don't want to start throwing parts at it just yet...

Belt to bypass ac compressor
Okay, I understand why no one has replied to my post, just not enoungh information. I took the serpentine belt of again and verified there is no noise without the belt. So because I replaced the tensioner it is either the alternator pulley or the AC compressor. Spun the AC pulley and could hear grinding noises. It's the AC compressor... But I have no $$ to replace until spring.
SO, my question is, on a 2000 V70 XC is there a shorter belt I can buy to bypass the AC compressor until spring when I replace the compressor? What is the part number or where can I look? FCPEuro?

Still have noise at idle
Replaced the compressor, and PCV and throttle body while I was at it. I still have that noise at idle however. It's driving me nuts.
It vibrates almost like a shot motor mount, but I just replaced four (right passenger, both uppers on top of the motor, and transmission mount). Most strange is no vibration or noise with accessory belt off so it leads me away from the mounts. Can an alternator make horrible noises like that?
