Default No diagnosis... Car Stalls With No Warning.

Hello,
I can do no more than change a flat, check the oil, and read the dash board to correct any problems with my cars. A mechanic I am not.
That said, I have had an ongoingproblem with my 2000 v70 wagon since February.
I hit two potholes in rapid succession on a turnpke - no chance to avoid either one - and immediately lost power. Touched the gas and no response. Floored it, the care leaped ahead and I limped off the highway.
Rescue truck drove the car, took it out of cruise control, could find no problem.
Drove it home - 70+ miles - and just hugged the right side of the road.
The car consistently but irregularly stalls when accelerating from a stop; the local dealership has shown a great deal of patience when I return with the same problem, but they can not replicate it.
The fuel line has been taken apart, as has the gas tank, fuel pump, connections checked, new spark plugs, etc. and they've put over 1000 miles on trying to have it stall out so they can experience the same thing.
Not a chance.
The last episode was by far the worst. Stalled coming out of a parking lot; bucked and sputtered, would not go over 20 mph, virtually limped along to a safe place to pull over and it just stopped. Towed in again. The stalling has never lasted for so long a time.
Mechanic immediately tried to start car, and of course, it ran just fine.
I have an unreliable vehicle.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Vacuum leak, MAF, something to do with your new fangeld '99 year drive-by-wire.

P.S. there can be vacuum leaks that do not always present. They are not large, but will either present under low vaccum or under high vacuum the hose will pinch the leak shut.

Also, if you've got a CAMshaft position sensor on that car I'd check that. My appologies; I have limited knowledge of the post 1998 Volvo's.

I assume since you're going to the stealership they've used the code reader on it? What'd that say?

P.S. You writiing, "...the dealership showed a great deal of patience (every time I returned)..." was funny; I was thinking (patiently taking your $$$). I wish I lived in New England.

Don't fret, these are great cars; you'll get it fugured out. Might cost you a pretty penny, but these cars will go forever if properly maintained.

Thank you for your input.
I found a vintage 240 wagon with low mileage which I will use as the reliable vehicle - and let my local mechanic (not the dealer) take the v70 to drive around for a bit to see if it will act out for him - and will give him your suggestions for solving the problem. If we find a solution, will post it.
Thanks again.

I would have them pull the fuel pump relay and check the solder connections inside the relay.

Good idea, Tech. Fuses, relays and connectors...

One more thing, congratulations on the 240!

If no codes are being reported, perhaps power is being lost to the ECUs. Power is off to the ECU hence it cant record a fault. I would check upstream of the ECU. Perhaps the ignition relay.

Default No Diagnosis ~ possibly solved

Well, here it is, almost six months to the day that I started having intermittent stalling, stopping, bucking, etc. problems with my 2000 V70 ~ which in all other aspects was/is in great shape ~ and it's taken 2,000 dealer (2) mechanic (2) miles to remedy.
What has been done is install a new crankshaft speed (?) sensor (used OEM) a new fuel pump, and a fuel pump relay. And so far so good.
The last port of call came highly recommended, and has all sorts of high-tech diagnostic equipment. The car failed for him, and he was able to get some codes...so there you are.
Perseverance and dollars. I'm not sure I'm ready to ad up all the invoices, but I can ballpark at just over $1,000.
Still worth it with only 120,000 miles on the car.
For the moment I'm a happy camper, plus I have the 240 to spruce up!
Thank you to all who offered suggestions - I printed them off and took them to the mechanics and dealers.
Much appreciated.

Are you saying that the car is fixed?

Very nice. I bet it was the fuel pressure regulator.
