Default Transmission Issues

I have a 1998 XC70 and am looking to add a new version of the XC70. I have the opportunity to buy a 2001 with awesome dealer records as well as a 2011 with dealer records just as good. They both ha e roughly 150k. In researching, I'm finding transmission issues with the 2001, a few with the 2011. Any suggestions or personal experience? I've heard computer updates can help keep some of those issues from happening. Sadly, I like the 2001 the best. Showroom new, but it gets the worst reviews....

2001 was the first year of the new body style vxcs60/70/80. And are known for multiple problems.

I would choose the newer car if possible.

You might find it harder to find people willing to service a 2001 and any small accident will probably total the car due to it's age.

+1 on Hoonk's comments about the early 2000s XC70s. Common issues include transmission (bevel gear?) and throttle body (ETM) as well as some of the carry over issues like fuel pumps and PCV issues. Most of these issues were addressed by 2004 so the 04s to '10s would be what I'd shop for.
