Exclamation xc70 rough idle

I just bought a 2000 xc70. (193,000 miles)It has a rough idle in park and as I come to a stop. I also noticed today as I was on the highway a bit of a jump/shake when I was around 60-65 mph. It also was a bit rough during acceleration going uphill. Hoping to find some advice here before I take it to a mechanic. The previous owner mentioned that the timing is off. Would that mean timing belt would cause this problem? Ive owned two previous volvos (98 V70 and 2000 xc70) and never had this issue. Please help!

Thanks,
Alix

I would do a compression test. If that checks out check for a vacuum leak. Is the check engine light on at all?

I'm having the same problem with my 1998 v70xc - I'm being told to look at the mass air sensor, and the crank position sensor - I bought mine used as well with 183K - look over the electrical system - the cap, rotor, wires and plugs. I've thrown in the towel - not getting past 25 mph - like it's running on 2 cylinders - no power!
The only codes that came up so far are the 2nd and 4th cylinders are misfiring.
I'll be looking at the responses you get because it sounds like you're experiencing the same issues that I am - but my car was running fine for two weeks - when I bought it.
Now, just like that, it's a heavy thing in my driveway. I'm bringing it to a foreign car mechanic tomorrow morning - can't do anything else - preparing myself for the worst.

Alix the chances that your timing is off is almost slim to none. The symptoms you described seems to me to be another one of volvo etm cleanings. Most of the time even before a code is thrown you will get a loopy idle. The etm electronically controlls the idle of these cars and when its not functioning properly they start acting up as you described. If you noticed that this problem is isolated at idle and low engine speeds...do a google search of your cars etm.
