I have a 2004 Volvo V70 2.4, and recently been experiencing issues with the battery needing jumped when it sits for a few days. My girlfriend has had it to AutoZone to have both the Battery and Alternator checked out. They have stated they are both good.

I have had the battery and alternator checked, both are good.

Wondering what else could be the issue. I am currently deployed overseas, but will be home in a month or so (God willing.)

Please give me some ideas of what could be wrong, so I can attempt to have it diagnosed without having to spend a lot of money!

If it won't start without a jump, its the battery. I don't care what the kid at AutoZone says.

 

As mentioned above, have the battery load tested.

One battery drainer which comes up frequently is the alarm unit when its small batteries die.

Pulling its fuse (a number in the 30's - I can't remember exactly) will stop the parasitic drain. Then replace the batteries in the alarm unit if the board isn't damaged or live without.

The unit is within the right front fender. Remove fender liner for access. There are "one way" screws which'll need their heads ground off.

 

Thanks for the quick responses. When I get home, that'll be the first thing I do. What about a way to check to see if the sunroof motor is bad? It won't open, and I've checked the fuses. All were good. Could it also be an issue with the alarm?

Also, GeorgeandKira, what kind of batteries are those small ones that you are mentioning could need replaced in the alarm unit?

Just curious as to what I need to be looking at

 

It's a small stack of relatively standard batteries. I will look for the notes I took as well as do a search. As we all know, searching for anything on any of these forums is so unpredictable. Happy Independence Day

Hey gerogeandkira, I finally got home a couple of days ago..I just got to working on the Volvo and took out the alarm fuse. Will that fix the battery drain issue if it was due to that? I had the battery tested again prior to that and it is in perfect condition.

 

look for a sticky on the V70 or 850 board on how to test out your electrical system. You have not mentioned if you tested the car for a parasitic battery drain - which can be as simple as a glove box or vanity light stuck on that will drain a battery in 2-3 days. You'd need to measure the current draw with the car off / key out. If the current is too high, then you need to start pulling fuses until you find which circuit is still active and go from there.
