2001 V70 fuel pump issue

Hi,
To put it short: I'm testing my 2001 V70 fuel pump by applying voltage directly to the plug (12VDC, blue +12VDC and black GND) and I have connected a hose to the outlet port at the fuel pump. I can clearly hear the pump motor whirring and I can hear some fluid motion in the tank, however nothing comes out of either tube - the out/pressure line nor the return line. I'm asking for a sanity check: do I have to replace the pump? Can it fail like this?
----
A bit of a background info too: I had some old diesel laying around, unknown quality, I added this to the fuel tank (I had about 20 L good diesel in the tank, and I added 20 L, filtered through a sock). Went driving, all good, and then the motor started acting up, black smoke, hesitant, rpm's playing around. Until in the end the motor sinply would not start. Okay ... my first idea was that the old fuel I added was so bad that it simply would not burn.
My next plan was to drain the fuel tank via the fuel filter. I then proceeded to search for the fuel filter, which I did not find! Nowhere near the rear wheels, near the tank. The place where all the videos show the filter located is void, you can fit two fists in there, but it is empty on both sides of the vehicle. Cannot see any filters near the front wheel either. I found from a forum post that some models with a metal tank have the fuel filter inside the fuel tank. Well... I do not have a metal tank.
So my next plan was to drain the fuel system via the fuel pump. I proceeded gaining access to the pump, all good, and that is where I am now, as described at the beginning of this post. The pump turns, no fluid flows out of it, however I can hear some fluid-stuff happening in the tank.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

can you measure the current draw of the pump? try jumpering or replacing the relay. If the draw is too much, the pump is probably toast. Uh that would be after you drain the tank and take the old fuel to a hazardous waste recycling center :-) Not worth the $5 of free fuel to ruin a fuel delivery system.
