I just bought a volvo v70 XC and when I bought it had the CEL on... I didn't think it was a major problem and still don't think so.

I have an OBDII code reader and I used it to see what was the cause of the CEL.

The codes I got were - P0013 - Camshaft Position Actuator circuit/open(bank1)
- P1332 - CVVT Solenoid

Are those codes related, can one cause the other?
What should I check before buying any parts at all?
What parts should I consider buying?

My guess is that your VVT unit is gunked up from lack of oil changes.
