Default 2002 volvo v70 alternator replacement

Hi,

I'm trying to replace the alternator on my 2002 volvo v70. I've taken off the power steering pump so far and I'm thinking I need to take off the Torx bolt that holds on the high-pressure power steering line to the intake manifold that I may be able to get the power steering pump out of the way of the alternator.

I am wondering if I disconnect the high pressure line from the power steering pump that there may be a single use only gasket in there that I am going to have to replace. Therefore, I'm going to try to do it without doing that.

I'm wondering if I'm going to have to remove the coolant hose that runs over this line and connects to what appears to be the thermostat in order to get the power steering pump out if the way.

Has anybody else done this?

Eric

Drain the coolant and disconnect the upper hose. Don't disconnect the power steering pipe, but do remove the torx 25 holding it to the intake.

That's what I did, but the alternator didn't want to come out after I had loosened all three books. The bottom two bolts couldn't come out all the way because the bottom radiator hose was in the way.

The lower radiator hose is on the other side, nowhere near the alternator. Are you talking about the intercooler hose? It needs to be removed. You also have to loosen the bottom bolts for the compressor.

I bet it's the intercooler hose, it runs over the engine and attaches to a hard plastic pipe

Yeah, that's the charge air hose going from the intercooler to the turbo. You'll need to remove it too.

Hi,

I'm working on this Volvo again this weekend I've taken out all three bolts from the alternator and have removed the intercooler hose. The alternator will rock back and forth but it won't come out. Where are the bolts that I need to remove from the compressor. Will that help? I can't figure out why the alternator won't come out at this point. Is the compressor the thing underneath the alternator?

Thanks,
Eric
