Question 2006 V70 Wheel swap with 2009 S40?

How big of a deal is 3.5mm difference in offset? Also the S40 tires are 205/50/17 where the V70 calls for 225/50/17, the 225 number is the height right?

Thanks

P.S. it is a front drive 2.5T car...

225 is tire width, increase in width will also increase the overall diameter & circumference

First number is tire width, 2nd number is sidewall thickness taken as a % of the tire width, 3rd is rim size.

The tire doesn't matter as much as the rim/wheel, however going with a wider tire, you may rub on the tire liner.

Offset depends on your brakes and how close they are to the wheel and also are something to consider with tire rub at full lock

EDIT: Helpful tool I use a lot https://tiresize.com/calculator/

Biggest problem will be the center bore. The 06 is 65mm, 09 is 63.4. So if you want to put 06 v70 wheels on a 09 s40 and want them to be centered on the hubs,(and not vibrate badly!) you will need some hub centering rings.

Check out wheel-size.com for specs and compatible models. As hoonk noted, Gen2 S40s use a 63mm center bore and the S60s didn't start using that until 2009 or 2010. Stay away from spacers and centering rings - there's plenty of options for nice looking factory spec wheels. I picked up a nice set of OEM style rims for our Gen 1 S40 via hubcaphaven.com that have a factory fit.

Regarding offset, that's the mm value between the centerline of the rim and the face of the hub. So an ET52 says the centerline of the rim is about 2 inches inward from the hub. Next consideration is the rim width. Factory rims for the S60 range from 6.5 inches to 8.5 inches which means the 8.5s are 1 inch closer to the strut etc and 1 inch closer to the fender when compared to a 6.5 inch wide rim. 3.5mm is about 1/8th of an inch so that's not really a concern unless you are trying to fit very wide rims. If you goal is to run 225s, then a 7.5 inch wide rim is appropriate. Chosing the correct aspect ratio varys by rim height and is chosen to maintain the correct rolling circumference so as to not throw off the speedo. example my car runs 235/45-17s. I could also run 235/40-18s and maintain the rolling circumference.
