overheating CEM or ECU?
If it happens while driving in warm or hot environment, it might be faulty ECU that overheats. Does the symptoms disappear after you stop the car, let it cool off and start again? No DTC recorded? You can try to run it with AC fully on, vents to the interior semi closed, so the cold air is pushed to the ECU box assuming that the fan in the box is working.

Reflash won't help.
To check you can take CEM out and try to heat it a bit with hairdryer.
If it the case you wont wait a long to get this issue reproduced.
When the issue happens you usualy can hear a lot of clicks. That is relays on the CEM.
Module restarts and relays are clicking. After several restarts it just hangs.

Cem
Gang,
As I posted my problem I got a few responses. One that I question was using my wifes hair drier at 1800 watts to test the CEM. You want to reck one do that! We took it back to Volvo and that's what it needed $1137. I spent 700 getting to this point trying to do a work around. Trust your dealer.
Best- David
BTW- I didn't try the Hair Drier. To Hoky.
