Hello, I have a 2001 V70 2.4T with 184,000 miles on it and I have an odd situation. It just had a 100,000 service and I had it smogged recently. A couple of days ago, I noticed that the message center had blanks on the "miles left, average mpg", etc. I was driving and pulled to the curb to get something in the back and then got back in and shut the engine off. When I went to start it again, it cranked, but would not turn over. I waited 5 or so minutes and tried again, same results and again the 3rd time. I left the key in the start position and saw that there was a check engine light and a oil pressure light and the red triangle in the middle of the panel is lit. I had it towed home. A friend put his upscale code reader on and no codes. My Volvo mechanic said he has no idea what the problem is when I gave him the symptoms. I know it was low on gas, but the reserve light was not lit. Could the gas warning light be part of whatever electrical problem is going on? Could I have run it completely out of gas? Would that have caused those particular warning lights to come on? Any help is greatly appreciated, Senior lady here.

Have you tried putting 5 gallons of gas in and seeing if it will catch (I trust the starter is turning the engine over.) The next step would be to check for codes, and if those don't give any clues check fuel pressure and fuel pump operation.
The oil warning light comes on whenever the key is on and the pressure is low - in your case the key was on and the engine was not running. Same thing with the red triangle - comes on when there is a STOP THE CAR NOW fault - there again no oil pressure. Check engine light may be the same - all will go off once the engine is running.
