Hello Everyone! I wanted to replace the tailgate handle (Volvo part 31253018) as it was not functioning anymore and did not open the tailgate with the handle or the remote key fob.
The new part is missing a switch, has 4 wires instead of the 6 on the OEM part and thus a different shaped pigtail and connector pins alignment (4 pins vs 6 pins). Please see the pictures attached. The new part has the same Volvo part number and came in a Volvo box. I do not think I can remove the switch from the OEM and put it on the new part either.
I appreciate any guidance you may have please.

So - any chance you can post a picture of the box or the part number printed on the old part? There are 3 part number choices, depending on your VIN and options.

 

Hello @hoonk. Thank you for the diagram. The very last picture in my post above shows the number as 31253018 as shown in your diagram. But I have power tailgate to open from the dash and key fob, and close it with a button on the bottom of the tailgate! That is the number on the OEM and thus the new part. But my OEM has the extra switch and two wires on it. Do you happen to have the part number for the type I should have on mine please? (2008 V70) Appreciate it!

 

Simply call the dealer of your choice, give them the VIN, ask for price, availability and part number. The dealer will have the latest, more likely to be correct parts catalog.Then choose the vendor to purchase from. That's what my shop did for 40 years to insure (most of the time) the correct part was ordered.

So after replacing the liftgate handle with the proper one to work with remote keyfob,etc. I still cannot open the tailgate from inside (dash button) or outside, manually or with the keyfob. All the links are properly connected, and only noticed the twisted wire cable going from an electronic module to the actual lock has a hard plastic holder to keep the cable in proper location for its operation. That little piece is broken. I used clear epoxy glue to reattach it, along with some FlexSeal tape wrapped on it to keep it inn place. Still no dice. Do I need to replace the lock system (electronics module and the mechanical latch)--volvo part 31253450 ?
